Zeton

An original dark fantasy world in active development since 2023. Not adapted from existing fiction, not borrowing established lore. Built from the ground up - designed to support a novel. Possibly more.

The world exists independently of any story. Mythology, geography, history, language, and magic were all developed before a word of the novel was written - so that when the writing happens, the world underneath it doesn't give way.

What exists

The vault currently holds 114 documented reference files across 17+ categories. Everything listed below is complete enough to be written against today.

  • History Multiple distinct eras spanning thousands of in-world years, each with its own civilisational character and dedicated documentation.
  • Geography A fully documented central city of approximately 500,000 residents, built down to justice systems, food supply, trade routes, economy, and social structure. Three outer cities with distinct identities and economies. A frontier territory. A world-ocean with documented unusual properties.
  • Magic system Eight individual ability types, each with its own cost mechanics. Five universal governing laws. Sub-systems covering progression, corruption, environmental interaction, and combination mechanics. A three-tier taxonomy of practitioners.
  • Calendar and cosmology A dual-moon lunar cycle. A 343-day year divided into seven named seasons. A recurring astronomical event with major civic significance, documented in full.
  • Weather Eleven-plus named meteorological phenomena, split between ordinary and magic-influenced categories. Each has its own documented mechanics.
  • Language A constructed naming system with phonetic rules, a continuously updated etymology registry, and dedicated root vocabulary files.
  • Governance Four civic institutions with distinct charters. Three governing bodies with defined jurisdictional relationships. A five-tier licensing system.
  • Additional Weapons, technology, entities, flora and fauna, and historical persons - all documented at varying depth.

The vault functions as a reference system, not a collection of notes. Where content hasn't been formally detailed yet, placeholders mark what logically must exist. The world is designed to be larger than its documentation at every stage.

The novel

Genre: Dark Fantasy, with Mythological Fantasy and Psychological Fantasy as secondary registers.

Mythology shapes the structural bones of the world - not just the aesthetics. Psychology is treated as terrain: the inner lives of characters carry the same weight as anything external. A rough outline exists. Several chapter drafts have been written. No completed manuscript yet.

Blind Tracks is a short story set inside this world - written to test whether the internal logic held under narrative pressure. It placed third in the UCY Literary Competition 2026.

How it's built

The methodology is as deliberate as the content.

  • Author-truth vs. in-world knowledge is maintained as a formal distinction throughout every file. Many of the world's most important mechanics are unknown to the people living inside it. The vault tracks what is true separately from what is known - and mixing them is treated as a world-breaking error.
  • Etymology as a standing constraint. Every new term coined for the world must fit its phonetic rules and be logged in the etymology registry before the session closes. The constructed vocabulary isn't decorative - it governs what names are even possible.
  • Continuous review. New canon triggers a check of all existing files for inconsistency or staleness. The world is treated as a single coherent system where new facts have downstream consequences that must be tracked.
  • AI for consistency, not content. AI is used to flag logical contradictions across the vault when asked - nothing more. No content is AI-generated. Every idea, decision, and direction is mine. This is a personal line, not a technical one - this world matters too much to me to hand any part of it over.
